First of all, you’ll need to score some paper or styrofoam plates and paint them.
You will need standard glass jars, googly eyes, brown paint, paper towels, hot glue sticks, scissors, battery-powered string lights, and electrical tape to create this project. It’s not exactly terrifying, but if you’re not exactly a fan of dolls and are easily spooked out by movies that portray haunted dolls that come to life and perform evil tasks, well, this one’s not for you. You can draw a Frankenstein’s monster face, a witch face, a skeleton, or a Jack-O-Lantern, whichever you see fit. If you’re having a hard time with this design, you should check out the tutorial we’ve included above.

Watch out for the home owner, the grim reaper, he will be out taking pictures outside! There are many different types of Halloween decorations available, so it’s important to choose one that fits your personal style and preferences. When it comes to choosing the best Halloween house decorations, there are a few things to consider before making a purchase. Consider placing decorations on the side of the house or in areas where they can easily admire them without feeling frightened.
Just follow the tutorial we’ve added above if you want to learn how to do them. The Halloween candy holder is a fun project and the best part about it is that the whole family can partake, given that it’s not too complicated to do. Let a few new decorations take up residency in your yard by creating a cemetery for a whole host of goblins and ghouls. Scatter a few skulls and bones throughout your yard to set the tone for the rest of your haunted house.
You’ll only need the outline of these creatures, so don’t worry about giving the characters too much detail. Place the figures inside the windows so when the lights are off, the window looks normal. However, when the LED light strips begin to flicker, visitors will see the outline of the Boogeyman and the rest of his crew inside your home. Use bright red candlesticks in matte black candle holders, and then add drips of red hot glue to resemble dripping blood. Let's put a spin on traditional pumpkin carving — cut out an oval shape in the front of your pumpkin instead of carving out the top. Spray paint the entire pumpkin black (be careful around the stem).
Once you do that, make sure to buy a couple of packs of black faceted beads, and a package of small black seed beads. Furthermore, as opposed to the other pumpkin paper project, you won’t get to cover this one in paper mache, as you’ll simply craft a bunch of designs and glue them over the pumpkin. For this purpose, we recommend you use a pumpkin that’s lighter in color so that the designs you’ll be crafting from the tissue paper will contrast nicely. If you can’t find a light pumpkin, you may need to use darker colors for the paper parts, and/or draw some outlines using a black marker pen.
The orange color exudes a playful and festive vibe, making them an ideal addition to your holiday decorations. Whether you’re decking out your indoor space or creating a hauntingly inviting atmosphere outdoors, these lights will cast a warm and welcoming glow that captures the spirit of Halloween. These enchanting orange string lights, featuring 100 brilliant bulbs stretched across 20 feet of black wire, are the ultimate choice for adding a vibrant and spooky touch to your home. The purple color adds a mystical touch, making your Halloween decorations truly pop. Whether you choose to place her indoors or outdoors, this spooky witch will leave a spellbinding impression on all who encounter her.
Furthermore, you’ll definitely steal the spotlight if you manage to create some truly remarkable decorations this year and not limit yourself to merely sculpting a pumpkin and hanging up a banner or two. However, if you want to turn your house into something that resembles a genuine haunted place, you’ll have to go the extra mile, and that requires not only craftsmanship but also a dash of creativity. After all, you’ll only keep them up for the occasion, so there’s absolutely no point in spending a fortune on market decorations when you could have some fun creating some on your own. However, there are a select few who refuse to give up and still create DIY Halloween decorations, and if you’re interested in becoming a DIY Halloween decorator, our guide will definitely be right up your alley. Give the pumpkins and ghosts a break and bring out something that scares just about everyone, creepy dolls. Whether you use old dolls you already own or a few that you’ve thrifted, give the dolls a Halloween makeover by adding dirt or paint to their faces, hair and clothes.
Your indoor and outdoor Halloween decorations can be as extravagant or simple as you'd like. Think candlesticks dripping in fake blood or floating lanterns and tombstone chair covers. As kids stop by your door to trick-or-treat, give them a scare with creative outdoor DIYs, like paper bat garlands and creepy crawler pumpkin spiders.

Orange and black may be the go-to colors of the season, but they're not your only option for a scary atmosphere. Consider theming your Halloween decor to the exterior of your home (or, in the case of this Upper East Side home, your front door) for a spooky scene that still coordinates with your overall aesthetic. Listen to our haunted house podcast, Dark House, on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. If you want to make your uncarved, unpainted pumpkins and gourds last longer, some suggest a bleach bath.
With Halloween just around the corner, it’s easy to fall into the trap of raiding your local stores and emptying shelves’ worth of theme decorations and turn your house into a spookier version of itself. However, things don’t have to be that way, especially if you’re one to enjoy a cozy evening of cutting, gluing, and sewing things together, or, in other words, crafting. This paper cone witch, for instance, is quite a great example of why you shouldn’t spend a fortune on Halloween decorations. As long as we’re on the subject of lollipops and Halloween, here’s yet another project that will have you combine the two into a nifty decoration for your Halloween party this year.
Scary Witch – Outdoor Halloween Decoration Ideas
Good Housekeeping gives us some extra inspiration with this easy idea. Fill up your fireplace with pumpkins for an extra pop of Halloween inside the house. Try to make them so that the base (the one you’re attaching to the toothpick) is 1-inch long, and the other sides are 2-3 inches long (these sides should be equal in length). After drawing them, you can use the sharpie marker to write names on them, then cut them out, fold their bases around the toothpicks, and secure the whole thing with glue. If you have to write longer names, you can increase the length of the two identical sides.
Family Vacations
Well, right, if you’re gonna turn the cat into some sort of werewolf and pick a scary design for your carved pumpkin then you’re gonna have a scary combo, but this one’s not exactly scary as it is goofy or cute. So it goes without saying that if you’re a hardcore fan of scary stuff for Halloween, you may want to skip ahead. Either way, both kids and adults are huge fans of outfits, staying out late, candy, and not to mention the spooky decorations that spring out of nowhere just before Halloween. Your home will never look spookier with these clever and creative DIY decor ideas. Transform your inviting abode into a haunted house or simply add some festive touches to a room.
It is the perfect addition to any Halloween household decorations and looks like something straight out of a horror movie. Given their vibrant design, these pillows will definitely bring a splash of color into your house, and if you’re really into them, you could just flip them over and keep them long after the season’s gone. This chandelier will definitely be a nice piece of decoration that will tie the room together nicely, especially if you go with the minimalist, goth aesthetic that this item brings to the table. However, it’s worth mentioning that, as opposed to some other projects we’ve included and described in our guide, you won’t be able to make this one out of things that are simply laying around in your house. Not unless you just happen to have a jack-o-lantern mold and some plaster at your disposal, that is. In fact, the DIY wall clock is a nice project for just about anyone if you want to decorate your house in a nifty manner this Halloween.
After creating the mini-flags, just stick them into your golden pumpkins and you’re all done! Check out our tutorial above if you’re having a hard time figuring it out. Place cards are not exactly common for non-special occasions, so you might want to step this one out if you’re not planning a party in such detail that you need people to be seated in specific places. However, if your Halloween party sounds exactly like that, then join us and we’ll teach you how to create adorable tiny DIY pumpkin place cards without busting the bank. If you ever planned a party, you probably know that even such a tiny, seemingly unimportant thing as a place card can set you off a serious amount of money. We suggest going for a smaller one since you’ll have to spend a lot of time to complete this project.
I know they sound like a great slipper, but the one drawback is that the faux fur lining isn't removable, and it catches every little piece of debris. For example, if I walk the dog and go in the grass, twigs get stuck in the fur. The good thing is, if they get dirty, you can hand wash them using mild soap and water.

I would like to see this in a leather and shearling version, but that's not to say I disliked this slipper. On the contrary, I enjoyed wearing these slippers and returned to them more often than not.
We love the ultra soft sherpa, which completely envelops your feet in a warm little blanket while a memory foam footbed cushions every step. There is a light rubber outsole for traction, but it is to flexible that you won't even notice it. When wearing a pair of slippers day after day, you’ll want to make sure you keep them clean. Fuzzy slippers may be warm and comfortable, but they can often be difficult to clean, which can lead to an unpleasant odor over time. Most slippers on this list can only be spot-cleaned with a damp cloth. For exceptionally easy cleaning, opt for our best slipper sock pick, the Bombas Gripper Slippers, which easily come clean in the washing machine.
While nothing sounds better than keeping your toes warm in fluffy slippers on a cold winter night, sweating and smelling after hours in your favorite house shoes is never comfortable. Stay warm and sweat-free with a memory foam option like these from RockDove. The cushioning feels soft for post-work wear, but we wouldn’t recommend wearing them all day long.
Ugg Tasman Slipper
Since these are a little more of a splurge than other slippers we tested, make sure you size according to L.L. But as some of the best house shoes you can find, they’re worth spending a little extra money on. Some slippers are machine washable, whereas others may require hand washing or no washing at all.
Once these slippers are broken in, you won’t want to take them off. “After two years, I still wear my Glerups every day, travel with them, and even bring them over to people’s houses when I’m visiting,” raved one Wirecutter staffer. L.L.Bean backs its slippers with a one-year satisfaction guarantee. If your moccasins get dirty or stained, you can spot-clean them with a wet cloth and a mild detergent.
I spent over 400 hours testing 12 slippers throughout my typical day, which extended into the night, to better understand their construction and comfort. I typically wear a size 10.5 or 11 shoe, depending on the brand, but for testing, I ordered all size 11. The footbed is made from rubber and is embossed with the Ugg logo, which means you can take these slippers outdoors to run errands, walk the dog, or even dress it up for casual work days. The Ascot is available in seven colors and has regular or wide options. Either way, these slippers are not machine washable, and the recommended care for them is to use a suede brush.
The Adidas Adilette Slide is one of the more versatile slippers on our list because of its style and practicality, which can be worn in almost any situation. They are popular as house shoes or shower slides and are also great for athletes because they allow the feet to breathe. Clicking on the Product Care section takes you to a page where you can choose your footwear, in this case, slippers. For this particular pair, they recommend placing them into a washable laundry bag and then into the washing machine.
They felt comfortable for hours without a single blister or moment of pain. These slippers are comfortable, soft, and more supportive than similarly priced options. They’re not made with animal products, but synthetic fleece is less breathable than wool, so they may cause sweaty feet.
These fit perfectly, and there is no need to wear socks with them. The wool is moisture-wicking and temperature-regulating, which means my feet never felt overheated. They're just comfortable, easy to wear—and use—slippers that will last. If you do get them dirty, you can clean them with a damp cloth, perhaps some leather or suede cleaner for the more difficult spots, but they should never go into the washing machine. Available in wide widths, these shearling slippers are the epitome of coziness, and we were instantly impressed with the 100% genuine sheepskin lining.
These sherpa-lined slippers from Old Navy are lightweight, super warm, and can handle indoor and outdoor wear equally well. The 100% nylon upper is water resistant, so it can handle some light rain and snow, while the sherpa lining is very soft and warm. As comfy as these men's slippers are for chilling out at home, the gripped rubber sole make them perfectly capable for venturing out into the world.

The Ugg Men's Scuff Slippers are my go-to slippers because of their craftsmanship, style, and materials like suede uppers, Uggplush material of upcycled wool and Tencel, and suede outsoles. Sure, there's no arch support, but these are the slippers you will wear when you get out of bed on a cold morning and stumble to the kitchen to grab your first cup of coffee. While it might closely resemble the winter footwear in your closet, Sorel's bootie acts as both a boot and a slipper, which makes it worth the price tag. For a hard-sole slipper you can wear when lounging on the couch, walking the dog, or even running errands, we love the Ugg Tasman Slipper.
Sheepskin and suede slippers
We also love the adjustability for those going through a pregnancy or other periods of life when your foot size might fluctuate. The upper uses knitting fleece for a quilted style to match your favorite sweater. With an exposed faux fur lining and horn button, they’re classically good-looking.

The thick layer of soft sheep fur will feel like you're walking on a cloud, while the rubber sole makes it more durable, so it doesn't wear down easily. Handmade in Portugal, these wool blend slippers are soft, flexible, and slide right on. The dense material is water resistant and rubber sole, complete with toe cap, and is ready to hit the streets. The first time we wore these, we used the velcro straps to fit the slippers to our feet. After that, the slippers effortlessly slip onto our feet and stay put throughout the day. Without the adjustability, they may feel slightly heavy, but the hefty strap keeps them from slipping off your feet while working from home or completing household tasks.
They come in 13 colors, so you can always match your slippers to your lounge outfit. When selecting your ideal slippers, you want to make sure that they fit comfortably without being too tight or loose. You also want to consider the shape of your foot or whether or not you need arch support. “If your foot is sliding around in a slipper, or if you are starting to get pain in the heel, the ankle, the arch, or the ball of the foot, these are not a good choice for your feet,” says Reilly.
RockDove has been on our list for years now, thanks to its memory foam interior and machine-washable fabric. I found these to be comfortable, and while they fit nicely, they work better when wearing socks. They're great memory foam slippers that are clog-style slippers you can easily slip on and off.

If other slippers make you sweat, our picks from Glerups could be the answer. Their 100% felted wool material is naturally moisture wicking, temperature regulating, and odor resistant—so they keep your feet perfectly toasty without overheating or getting stinky. They’re so breathable, we keep them in rotation practically year-round. Some slippers had higher quality materials, some had better designs, and others had varying degrees of comfort, but in the end, it came down to style and warmth. But in all seriousness, they are great shoes disguised as slippers.

Perfect for those morning walks with the dog, for walking around the house, avoiding the cold tile in the winter, and they're even great right out of the shower or hanging poolside. If you're looking for slippers that look like boots but provide the comfort of slippers, consider this option from Sorel. The heel and the tongue come up your foot just above ankle height and then drop below your ankle, giving you freedom to move your foot around. The Land’s End Moccasin was the top choice and one of my favorite slippers I tested because of its stylish look and snug fit. Our best slippers for men have an option for every personality and style. Made of a no-slip PVC, these slides are great post-shower or for general lounging.

Fresh Take: Ilios Crafted Greek in South End - Charlotte magazine
My wife and I visited ilios yesterday and it was great! We completely enjoyed the Spinach and Feta pie, the watermelon salad, the lamb gyro and the fantastic beet salad. As this was our first visit, the chef gave us a few tastes of his specialties... Ilios Crafted Greek gives the offering of fast food, but fresh and healthy. Pasadena’s seafood mainstay is bright and airy with vibrant seafood to match. Grab a counter spot or sidle into a booth in the minimalist space, then dig into Fishwives’s extensive daily oyster and shellfish menus. The entrees nod to the East Coast, with options like a steamer basket, Maine lobster and Dungeness crab rolls, and blue-crab jumbo crab cakes with a mustard vinaigrette. Chichen Itza chef Gilberto Cetina serves up Mexican seafood specialties at Holbox in the restaurant's expansive new space at Mercado la Paloma. Look for ceviches and tostadas using ingredients sourced from Baja and the Yucatán, including hard-to-find blood clams.

The standard oysters on the half shell rotate regularly based on what’s available, but the oysters Cousteau are a must-order for seasoned foodies. For the latter, each oyster costs $18 and is topped with fresh Santa Barbara uni and caviar. Nothing screams seaside dining like freshly shucked oysters on the half shell. These briny bivalves pair perfectly with a crisp glass of champagne and a coastal breeze, making Los Angeles the ideal place for enjoying oysters. Is scattered with elegant oyster bars that serve fresh shellfish and world-class wines, alongside immaculate vibes. Many places offer oysters Rockefeller, which come grilled and topped with a rich garlic butter.

The impeccably fresh aguachile doused in fiery green sauce and served with cucumber and red onion is also a must-order. Located at The Row in DTLA, Rappahannock Oyster Bar is a go-to spot for an elevated lunch near the office. The space has an industrial vibe, and the patio is perfect for enjoying cold oysters on a sunny day. However, the marble oyster counter is beautiful and even offers a peak at the behind-the-scenes magic in the kitchen.
Like its namesake, The Walrus beverage program is big and bold serving “over the top” frozen drinks and seasonal Margaritas that have become crowd favorites. Blue Plate Oysterette in Santa Monica is a locally-loved restaurant right on Ocean Avenue, and has been a Westside staple since 2009. The blue-and-white establishment has a nautical appeal that is reminiscent of what you’d find on the East Coast. The oysters selection changes daily, so there are always new options to explore. If you’re visiting with a group, consider ordering one of the seafood towers for a little taste of everything from the raw bar. Try Chelsea’s Kyotos; these grilled oysters are topped with a decadent Kyoto butter and shouldn’t be missed.

Oh Manna Fish Market serves up stellar deep-fried seafood in a former Wienerschnitzel (complete with the classic A-frame building). Nearly everyone orders the catfish and hush puppies, which should always be eaten immediately to savor the batter’s hot, crisp crunch. If you can't open the menu, open in a private window or switch Google accounts. The joys of Guatemalan seafood are at La Cevicheria on Pico Boulevard. One will likely see most tables eating the ceviche with blood clams dressed in citrus, tomato, avocado, and mint.

The all-scratch kitchen serves a seasonal menu and daily fresh features both from land and sea.
Oh Manna Fish Market
We opened our doors in September of 2014 and hit the ground running… literally. This 7,000 square foot, Chesapeake Bay inspired, full-service seafood restaurant, was bustling the moment we launched in National Harbor, MD. We’ve earned a legitimate reputation as an authentic oyster house, from our expansive program, boasting up to 15 bivalve varietals in all and selling over 500,000 oysters a year. The Walrus Oyster & Ale House has become a “go to” destination for Maryland/Virginia locals and out of town visitors alike. Our all-scratch and locally sourced food menu draws inspiration from the surrounding Chesapeake Bay area. The bar features a unique scratch cocktail program using small batch artisanal spirits, freshly squeezed juices and homemade seasonal syrups.

The deep-fried shrimp tacos from Mariscos Jaliscos are an iconic LA dish but don’t sleep on the rest of the menu from this legendary seafood truck, which has a few locations around town. The cocteles are outstanding, as are the seafood tostadas. In 2019, Ceviche Project chef and owner Octavio Olivas opened his cozy space in Silver Lake. It’s here where Olivas serves the likes of kanpachi tostadas or Beausoleil oysters topped with trout roe, Japanese seaweed, serrano oil, yuzu gelee, and borage flower. Ceviche Project is open Wednesday through Saturday from 4 p.m.

Head to this Vietnamese seafood specialist for the signature baked catfish. Sáu Can Tho Vietnamese Kitchen’s whole crispy-skinned fish is served with herbs, lettuce, pickled carrots and daikon, cucumber spears, vermicelli rice noodles, and rice papers. One might need to order extra tangy-sweet tamarind dipping sauce. The design provides an industrial homage to the Chesapeake Bay oyster industry of the late 1800’s.

The oyster bar serves as the focal point of the restaurant, and features stained glass and warm wooden accents. Goth House, the comic, was originally part of the Throwrug print zine in the early 90s. Written and drawn by Julie McGalliard, the comic moved online when Throwrug ceased production. Goth House Press began as a way to bring collections of the comic into print, mostly as short-run chapbooks. So far, Goodman says there's been a lot of interest in the house, but he's yet to receive any serious offers. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
Vernacular Gothic Revival
I got a lot of people who I guess you would call gothic who were very intrigued by it. Again, these people would ask if it was haunted and what kind of feel it had. I would tell them that the house was built in 1993 and that I hadn't experienced anything unusual there. There were also a lot of people who asked if I could make it an AirBnB so they could stay there for a night and have the experience, but I like to move on from project to project. When we started on the inside I said that I also wanted the interior walls black. My contractor said it wasn't going to work but they did paint the walls black.

But a lot of items had to be custom ordered, like the light fixtures, because they were black and unique. The Illinois home known as the “goth house” is on the market and is going for $250,000, the New York Post reported. This goth house has been painted black inside and outside but the results are actually pretty cool. Between 1855 and 1885, John Ruskin and other critics and philosophers stirred interest in recreating a more authentic Gothic architecture, like buildings from centuries before.
There's a gothic theater that Von D herself has performed in.
If a Gothic Revival house suits your style, Redfin can help you find one in your area. There are lots of ways to create a Gothic interior design even if you don’t have a Gothic Revival home. There are some common features you’ll find in a Gothic Revival house, such as arches throughout the home, whether that’s the window casings or in hallways. Many homes also have crown molding, vaulted ceilings, and intricate woodwork. It wasn't long before there were a couple of offers that came in, just because of the uniqueness of the house, but all types of people have contacted me about viewing it.
History of Gothic architecture
Later, more modest Victorian Revival homes were sometimes constructed of brick with wooden trimwork. The timely invention of the steam-powered scroll saw meant that builders could add lacy wooden bargeboards and other factory-made ornaments. Suggesting the cathedrals of medieval Europe, these homes had pinnacles and parapets. Of course, most people could not afford a massive stone estate like Lyndhurst. In the U.S. more humble versions of Gothic Revival architecture evolved. One of the most famous examples of High Victorian Gothic architecture is Victoria Tower (1860) at the Royal Palace of Westminster in London, England.
Blackmoor House, Hampshire, England
For now, I still reside in the black house and I'll be there until the sale closes, which will likely be March or April 2022. I'm already under contract to buy another house, but that one is a very modern, ranch style home. It's just another chapter in the book though, it won't be long before I move on again. Some of the furniture is black, but a lot is white to provide contrast. There is also white trim throughout, some charcoal gray doors and the bathrooms also have white tiles.
The First Gothic Revival Homes
The nine-bedroom New York property features a steep gable roof with classic dormers while interiors have tall ceilings, original decorative mouldings and no less than a dozen fireplaces. Rooms have gothic flourishes throughout including pointed arch windows. As well as a tidy half-acre plot of landscaped gardens, residents of the country property have access to the grounds of the adjacent Hadlow Castle. Alison is part of the content marketing team and enjoys writing about housing affordability and home interior design ideas. Her dream home is a cottage-style house with a chef’s kitchen and a cozy room to store and play vinyl records. However, as the 19th century came to a close and building methods focused on functionality over details, the style faded.
It wasn't that it was neglected, there was just a lot of deferred maintenance work. Edgar Street was kind of an unknown street in Lincoln, but now there are always people driving by and taking photos. I think the neighbors are ready for it to go back to being a quiet street now, which it will in time. The home in Lincoln hit the market just under two weeks ago and has two bedrooms, two baths and is just over 1,500 square feet, according to Realtor.com.

Goodman said that the home was a perfect buy for one or two people who want low-maintenance living.
Gothic Revival ideas did not die out, but they were most frequently reserved for churches and large public buildings. Cottages, smaller than plantation homes, were often built in populated areas. Methodist camps in Round Lake, New York and Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts became miniature villages in the Carpenter Gothic style.
The Goth House has enough space for nine guests, and it is currently listed at $214 per night. While most people decorate their homes in shades of black during the Halloween season, there are some of us who don’t need a holiday to embrace our inner darkness. We suspect the owner of this Airbnb in Lincoln, Illinois, is one of those people.
For those who fall in love with the tours and want to help in the future, Credle said they are looking for more docents, front-door greeters, and gift shop volunteers. Both Holtzclaw and Credle are excited to expand resident and visitor appreciation of the Green-Meldrim House and St. John’s Church as well as what all the historic house museum can offer. Jamie Credle, who is no stranger to Savannah’s historic house museums, having previously worked with the Davenport House, took over as executive director in July of last year. A few months later, the house museum reached nonprofit status, and Sherry Holtzclaw stepped up as president of the Keepers of Historic Green-Meldrim House. Some builders lavished the fashionable Gothic details on otherwise modest wooden cottages. For property owners of a certain wealth, whether in towns or American farms, homes were often more highly decorated, such as the brightly colored Roseland Cottage in Woodstock, Connecticut.
But since then, I've had a couple of people who are interested, so I don't know if it will end up being a bold colored house. While the black may be striking, it actually works in the house’s favor. Due to its unique shape, there is a lot of natural light inside, due to the many windows and octagonal shape. Goodman says he originally wanted to give the house black roof to make it stand out a little more. Once that was done, he chose to paint the interior walls black and things continued from there.

The master bathroom on the top floor is particularly stunning, with a walk-in marble shower that looks roughly the size of a New York studio apartment. On the lower floor, guests also have access to a fully-equipped galley kitchen with granite countertops. One is a 1917 brick bungalow on an older street in town, so I'm going very neutral and modern with that. But I have another property also in an older neighborhood and I was initially planning on styling that home with very bold colors on the exterior, interior or both. I think people are tired of always seeing the same style in properties.
